Personal wellbeing is often overlooked as a key ingredient of effective ministry over a lifetime. Giving adequate and consistent attention to wellbeing is essential to physical and emotional health and, for married clergy, to helping their marriages and families thrive.

A profound sense of divine calling, strong gifts and graces for ministry, and thorough preparation for ministry all can be sabotaged by a failure to give attention to personal wellbeing. However, personal wellbeing is not a DIY (Do It Yourself) project. It requires a plan that is communicated to and supported by those around the minister, including family, congregation, and denominational leadership. Personal wellbeing is multi-faceted: spiritual, physical, emotional, social, and financial. Wellbeing in one arena promotes wellbeing in all the other areas.
