Welcome to the USA/Canada Region's Prayer Room. We hope you'll stay for a while and pray about these requests for the Church of the Nazarene in the USA and Canada!

In early March, hundreds of youthworkers will meet in Phoenix for the NYI Leadership Conference. Please pray for these men and women as they enjoy fellowship, refreshment, having their skills honed through sessions, and as they do some planning for NYC, which happens next year! Pray for their ministries as they work with teens.

We are so thankful for Nazarenes who have a heart for evangelism and church planting. Hundreds are attending the Exponential East conference in Florida. Please pray for them as they go back home, that the Lord will open the doors as they proclaim the gospel.

Prayer and Praise

We thank the Lord for godly leaders in our denomination. The Church of the Nazarene General Board recently met. Please pray for these men and women; that the Holy Spirit will guide them and will prepare their hearts for this time of evaluation and decision making.

Scripture tells us the harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Will you pray that God will raise workers in our churches whose hearts will burn with a passion to reach the lost and those who need a church home?

Before we know it, district assemblies will be starting. Pray for the leaders who are planning these.

Palcon registration is underway. Please pray that pastors and other leaders will be able to attend for their encouragement, education, and edification.

Prayer and Praise

September was a challenging month for all Americans as Texas, Florida, and Puerto Rico faced nature's fury. We praise the Lord that Nazarene Compassionate Ministries has been on the ground, along with Nazarene churches and Nazarene individuals. Continue to pray for those who are exhausted by the trauma the hurricanes have brought into their lives.

Pray for the USA/Canada churches that are participating in Fall festivals and other community events during this season. Pray that the Lord will provide great fellowship and bless the churches with the opportunities to lead people into relationship with Christ.

Prayer and Praise

Though General Assembly has been over for weeks, we ask that you'll continue praying for those who attended the SDMI and NYI conventions, as well as those from the USA/Canada region who attended the NMI conventions.

We do praise the Lord for all the blessings of General Assembly!

We are thankful for a great summer of District Assemblies across the USA/Canada Region. We are so thankful for all the churches that met their WEF funding so the work of the Church of the Nazarene can continue not only in the USA/Canada, but all around the world. Please pray that the decisions and encouragement from the assemblies will help Nazarenes as they move ahead all year long!

Praise and Prayer

We are so thankful to the Lord for all the reports we are hearing of children coming to the Lord through VBS this summer! Please keep praying that the Holy Spirit will grab hold of these children's hearts and fill them with such love that they'll take knowledge of Him back home to their families! We also pray that the lessons they learn at VBS will stay with them as they grow, even into adulthood, just as many of us remember how the Lord worked in our own lives through Nazarene VBS. Also pray for the VBS leaders and volunteers, that the Lord will bless them for their labor and draw them closer to him.

With summertime still here, many Nazarene churches in the USA/Canada region are hosting outdoor events. Please pray that these will provide great outreach into communities. Pray for these churches as their community outreach shifts to fall activities and as they plan.

Please pray for new members of the USA/Canada Regional office. Bill Weisman retired this summer and Mark Bane, former District Superintendent of Joplin, has stepped in as director of Evangelism Ministries and New Church Development with a passion to see souls won to Christ.

In May, the USA/Canada Regional Office welcomed Charles Christian as the new Strategic Communications Coordinator. Charles is redeveloping Grace & Peace Magazine and will help all members in the office communicate more effectively. Charles is also serving as the new Managing Editor of Holiness Today magazine.

Engage the Word, a bi-annual focus on scripture for the Church of the Nazarene began on Sept. 24. Please pray that the Lord will use this tool to Make Christlike Disciples Among the Nations.

Prayer and Praise

It's a busy season for the USA/Canada Multicultural Ministries. Recently the black Nazarene leadership, Haitian leadership, and Korean leadership met in separate events to seek the Lord's will for their ministries and churches in the USA and Canada this year. Please pray for them as they implement their plans and continue to follow the Lord's guidance in reaching people for Christ.

Prayer and Praise

At General Assembly this summer, USA/Canada Region and Grace & Peace magazine released a new movie to foster our Nazarene identity: Phineas Bresee, Pastor to the People.

This film looks at the heart and soul of one of the early leaders of the Church of the Nazarene whose spiritual DNA is still alive and thriving in our churches! The room was packed for all showings at General Assembly, and we heard reports of how the Lord inspired and encouraged people. Please pray regarding logistics of final post-editing on the film, technical needs on uploading the film so it will be available for churches to show, and duplication of the film for retired Nazarene pastors. Please pray for the film crew as they wrap this up. And please pray that the Holy Spirit will work through the presentation to remind us, and teach a new generation, what being a Nazarene and holiness believer is all about.

If you have a prayer need regarding your USA/Canada Church of the Nazarene district or church, that you'd like for us to consider listing, please feel free to email us at usacanadaweb@nazarene.org. We will not be able to post prayer requests about individuals, and we may not be able to post all requests, but we welcome general requests.

"And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people." (Ephesians 6:18)

Resized Retreat Center

Resized Church Building Small Version

It would be easy to focus on the seeming impossibility of the vision, or perhaps a cancer diagnosis, or the numerous distractions and sin which could keep people from following Jesus. The dream God gave Rev. Pete Hill and his son Drew in 2015 to plant five churches in ten years, beginning with Focus Ministry Church of the Nazarene, is beyond their ability to accomplish. It likely seemed more daunting when Pete was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Add to that the desire to minister to those who are unreached or disconnected from Jesus and you have a recipe for a God-sized dream.

Resized Mike Brandy Hagnauer

According to Pastor Pete, Focus Ministry Church of the Nazarene is a “mother and base church” nestled near Kentucky’s Red River Gorge and Natural Bridge State Resort Park; its “spiritual retreat center offers room and board on the property” which spans 55-acres. The church plant, which first took root in September 2016, is fueled by the commitment “to be focused on who God is, what He is all about, and what He wants.”

In the few short months since it was launched, Focus Ministry has been fruitful in its mission. The multigenerational congregation encourages people to come as they are, “makes you feel at home,” and is a “big asset to (the) community” according to congregant Barbara. Mike and Brandy (pictured at left) are two others whose lives have been renewed. Mike and Brandy, married for 13 years, describe their journey of “moving further and further away from Jesus until we could no longer see Him and we were completely out of the will of God.” They are thankful for the loving pursuit of God, including the way He used Focus Ministry. Through the ministry of the Halls, Mike and Brandy attest to “a renewed focus on God and a sense of purpose.”

Resized Mike Drew Tori Ashley Myron

Fulfilling the vision God gave to Focus Ministry extends beyond an inviting place or reminding people what they once believed, but reaching those who seem hopelessly lost. At one point in her journey, Shatoria (Tori- pictured at right) recounts “I felt like there was no hope and (I) always was going to be that same person using drugs and that my life was never going to change.” If you listened to Tori’s complete story, you would hear just how many things needed redemption; she had lived on the streets, used drugs, prostituted, and was recently shot four times in a case of mistaken identity.

Yet Jesus stepped into the darkness of Tori’s life and brought His light—light which has been shed in significant ways through the Halls taking her under their wing, discipling her in reading God’s Word, and teaching her how to love others more deeply. Of her experience, she says, “Jesus saves— and if He can save someone like me who so lost, he can save anyone!”

 Resized Focus Ministry at DCPI

For the purpose of reaching these “anyones”—those who feel trapped in the dark or who have been alienated from Christ and His Church—Focus Ministry Church of the Nazarene exists. Pastor Pete and Drew (pictured above) will continue to plant multiplying churches for as long as God grants them lives to live in service to Him. According to Drew, their greatest prayer is “that God will continue to transform lives.” And as they continue to see the lives God is changing around them, they will marvel at the changes He brings to their own through a singular focus on God.
